Bars of Old Near Central Plaza

Post by karon steve » Tue Dec 30, 2025 7:34 pm

A firend of mine is in Udon now and asked me about a bar I used a lot on Prajaksimlapacom road. Leave Central turn left and it was in the block of shop houses on the same side. Next to Steve's Bar. A German owned and when he lost the lease he moved out near the ring road somewhere.
Can anyone remember what it was called?

Before my time but it’s a good opportunity for me to try ChatGPT (I know, I’m way behind the curve)

It came up with this list & Zur Pfalz a lot even though it’s on the ring road. Maybe it was on Prajaksinlapacom Road before.

That's right Nigel. Horseshoe, Steve's then Mojo's. Before them it was Mick's bar at the Horseshoe location. Q was the cook at Mick's. When Mali created Steve's bar she made it a mirror image of Mick's. She would pop her head in the door and take a gander. Steve George eventually took over the Horseshoe and punched a hole in the wall to connect the two. Steve sold the bar to Steve Ridgeley. Ridgley had the bar when Mojo's was being built. During that time there were 7 bars in Udon owned by a Steve. Only Steve George could give the correct answer to that trivia question.

Steve's Bar stood alone on that spot when I arrived. I found it a friendly and welcoming establishment. Had many fun times there and met lots of friendly expats (and a few dickheads - sadly many of them Aussies). Hadn't heard about Mick's bar until Mac mentioned it. Steve George was a lovely fella. From can remember 4 of the 7 Steves.

Thanks for your help.
The bar I was asking about was MoJo's. As soon as I saw the name it clicked.
I spent many a night in there drinking house vodka and trying to get into the knickers of the cashier alas I failed.
